Dr. Michael Amior is seeking to understand why certain cities are constantly in a state of economic flux with low workforce participation and employment rates while others are not. Granted, geographical socio-economic variations are to be expected but long-term persistence of these variations is strange and calls for investigation. Dr. Amior is researching how labour markets operate geographically and what reasons there may be for such a level of persistence in joblessness in the face of other changing economic and demographic factors.
A graduate of the University of Cambridge and University College London, where he attained his doctorate in Economics, Amior joined the Hebrew University Department of Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences in July 2017 following postdoctoral research at the London School of Economics. Dr. Amior hopes that his research will have tangible implications for people’s lives and “will ultimately serve to guide and inform government policy.”
